Camellias, Cards and Coco

Last spring I received my first Garden Fairy’s Wardrobe request for an “Ode to Chanel” using camellias.

As the camellias in my garden are pink, friends offered up the spoils of their garden and so one evening I went around and with scissors in hand my friends surveyed their camellia bushes and chose the most perfect blooms to fill up my basket.

I had enough blooms to create a collection of designs, and inspired by the tradition of closing a haute couture show with a wedding dress, decided on a bridal theme.

I am excited to announce that they are now available as a trio of greeting cards – perfect for a fashionista’s birthday or an invitation to a celebration!

You can purchase a set from my petal & pins shop.

Shadow Play

I love playing with shadows and I love working with lace, so yesterday when I finished a guipure lace dress I decided to try something different when photographing it.

The client and I decided on a classic 50’s silhouette – pencil skirt and a defined waistline which is emphasised with grosgrain ribbon. It’s left sheer so the colour of the slip can be changed and the back does up with 23 small silk covered buttons.

There was extra joy in making this dress as the client has become a close friend after first designing her wedding outfit 13 years ago. Coincidentally I commenced cutting the lace on her wedding anniversary so I decided to name the dress ‘anniversaire de mariage’.

This dress fits her like a glove – it’s classic, feminine and sexy. Tonight she steps out in it for the first time worn with a black slip.

I’d like to play some more with lace shadows and I think I’ll suggest to my friend she keeps a diary for this dress – to tell the story of where it takes her and whether it was a champagne or martini occasion!

I recently caught up with a friend I hadn’t seen in a while, it was wonderful sharing time together and one of the things we did was create these passionfruit flower designs for my Garden Fairy’s wardrobe.

As mentioned in Serendipity & Teacups it was no surprise she would choose to do a pant suit. A few years ago, after her wedding, she exuded 1940’s Hollywood glamour when she changed into silk satin lounging pyjamas and boarded a seaplane at the bottom of her garden.

Just the other day I walked past a different passionfruit vine with fabulous pink flowers – I immediately thought of my friend – she’d have liked them too.
