A String Of Pearls
by petal & pins
On a Sunday morning walk I came across a Rowan Tree. I didn’t know that was what it was at the time and needed to do a bit of sleuthing when I got home.
It was the pink tinged white berries that caught my eye. I immediately thought of them as perfect for strands of ‘pearls’ for my garden fairy and picked a few sprigs to bring home to play with.
Walking back down my path to the front door I passed the hydrangeas, they too are tinged pink and the russet tones they start to turn as they dry out with the onset of Autumn.
I decided to combine them in a floral arrangement using my ikebana vase and included some cuttings from one of my plum trees.
Inspired by a post on the blog pbm Garden for ‘In A Vase On Monday’ I twisted the plum stems into a knot, soaking them in hot water to soften them up beforehand.
It’s a while since I’ve used this vase – it requires such a different approach to flower arrangement so I experimented with several ideas and I think this one is my favourite.
And then I got a needle and thread to string some garden pearls.
‘In a Vase on Monday’ was started by Cathy. She invites you to join her challenge to find something from the garden to put in a vase each week – what ever the season. So why not get inspired and share your vase arrangement in the comment section of her blog Rambling In The Garden.
Brillant! I have the same vase and agree that it is always a bit difficult to make the right arrangement. You have succeeded beautifully. I am going to remember that trick with knotting the stems as they are a wonderful addition to the grouping.
These arrangements are so incredibly beautiful….the string of berries, the twisted branches and then those cut…you have a fabulous talent for creating art with flowers.
Thank You Donna!
Very creative! Those berries are beautiful – they WOULD make a pretty necklace.
Seriously fantastic!
Lovely! The color of your plum stems is a perfect accompaniment for the berries and flowers. It’s fun to see how you experimented shaping the stems.
Thank You for the inspiration!
Those rowan berries are such a lovely colour – perfect pearls for your fairies! I love the arrangement and your use of the plum tree stems – so nice to see something autumnal when we are all raving about spring.
Oh how lovely, and even just your first picture would be a contribution for a our Monday posts – but you have added all these other pretties and to great effect. Twisting the purple stems and cutting the graduated ones are such effective ideas, and then to string your ‘pearls’ too…. I so enjoyed looking at all your pictures and I am sure everyone else will too 🙂
A wonderful colour scheme. I like the twisted stems a lot.
Stunning!
Thank You Keryn. Your beautiful arrangements I see on Facebook are inspiring me too!
Such Beautiful berries! Lovely combination and wonderful arrangement. Congratulations! Xx
